Happy Earth Day, y'all! Today is a day for thanking our planet for all that she's given us. And, more importantly, for letting around us know just how much we're thanking our planet for all that she's given us.
No one is better at that than celebrities. They'll never let a cause go by without taking full advantage, and Earth Day is no exception. All the stars turned out to remind their Twitter and Instagram followers just how much they're doing to support dear ol' Mother Earth. They're walking barefoot in the grass! They're sticking their toes in the ocean! They're planting a tree! And most importantly, they're posting extremely flattering photos of themselves doing all these things.
Since you're probably really busy picking up trash and personally adding snow to all the glaciers, we've rounded up some of the best (and, er, not best) Earth Day commemorative posts—and rated them, of course (from zero to 10 Planet Earths). Because what fun would this be without some healthy competition?
#noplacelikehome @nasa #earthday Earth day should be celebrated like all these other holidays...Not with everyone giving and getting presents but singing songs REJOICING, being with FAMILY, being filled with GRATITUDE for what we've been given by the world! Nature is selfless... She just keeps giving... But she will eventually run out (CA) for our kids and their kids if we don't return her graciousness... Earth day should never stop being celebrated... Because every time we look at the sky.... Walk bare foot in the grass, stick our toes in the ocean or jay lay in a bed of puppies just remember... There is no place like home... Aka planet Earth.... #sotakecareofit #wecantadaptoanotherenvironmentsotakecareofthisone
She wrote a whole bunch of junk that we frankly didn't pay attention to because PUPPY. Eight out of 10 Earths just for the dog.
It?s #EarthDay! Take a minute to appreciate the world around you. Pet a squirrel. Scatter sunflower seeds around your home. Wash a tree.— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) April 22, 2015
We absolutely do not recommend petting a squirrel. Three Earths.
Happy #EarthDay all living systems of this beautiful, spinning, nearly impossible, blue shining sphere.— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) April 22, 2015
This makes literally no sense, but it's obvious he wrote this while enjoying the planet's most natural herb of all (cough cough) so we'll give him five Planet Earths.
Today is Earth Day! Let's love, honor and take care of our beautiful Mother Earth. We are One. Our well being depends on how we take care of our planet. This is our home, the only one we have. #Earthday #weareone ???????? ?? Hoje é o Dia da Terra! Vamos amar, honrar e cuidar da nossa linda Mãe Terra. Nós somos Um. Nosso bem estar depende de como cuidamos do nosso planeta. Esta é a nossa casa, a única que temos. #DiadaTerra
It's Gisele! With a superimposed naturescape! Ten planets because that is pure, unadulterated artistry.
Daniel Betrá snapped this image of melting glaciers over Iceland. Beautiful and frightening. Let's not laugh off the threat to our Planet. We are slowly destroying it however much people want to deny it and play ignorant. Unless we start making small changes in our lives things will never be the same, and the beauty we love so much will be gone. Don't leave it till it's too late! #MakeChange #EarthDay
A haunting image + passionate words + no mention of yourself whatsoever = nine planets.
Ellie Goulding Again:
Windmills? So Earth Day 2014. Four planets.
OMG is that a mermaid or former Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr? We literally cannot tell. Seven out ten for mystery and intrigue.
Sarah Jessica Parker:
Honored to take part in celebrating Earth Day. Happily wearing my @jcrew shirt designed by @drawbertson. @jcrew, Xerces Society, and Buglife are partnering up to help save the bees and it's my great honor to help them spread the word. After all, they are our most important pollinators, responsible in part for some of my favorite things. French fries, fresh-cut flowers, raspberry pie. The list goes on... X, Sj #JCrewLovesBees
We love you, SJP, but we see right through your shameless self-promotion masquerading as Earth Day sentiment, girl. Two planets.
Thanks for the motion sickness, Nicole Richie. But whatever, four out of ten.
Melissa Joan Hart:
Today lets all do something good for #EarthDay and live by this.. If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down. ??— Melissa Joan Hart (@MelissaJoanHart) April 22, 2015
All the slow claps (and Planet Earths) in the world for this.
