ABCD.J. Tanner, we missed you so!
Everyone's favorite big sister is heading to Netflix. John Stamos announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Full House will be revived by the online streaming giant in 2016, with a new series, Fuller House, centering on D.J., the eldest Tanner sis played by Candace Cameron-Bure. Cue screams of excitement from '90s kids everywhere now.
But life hasn't been so kind to D.J. since we said goodbye to her when the original series went off the air in 1995. (How rude!)
"My character, I am unfortunately widowed," Candace told E! News' Jesse Giddings at the Dancing With the Stars' 10th Anniversary party Tuesday night. "D.J.'s had a rough life—her mom died and now her husband died. She has two boys and she's pregnant with her third, so life's tough. She needs help, so she asks Stephanie and Kimmy to come live with her and help her raise her kids. It's kind of the flip of the original Full House."
And just because the plot of the new series is similar to the original, Cameron-Bure said fans shouldn't expect Fuller House to feel dated.
"It will be fresh and contemporary and it'll be current," she said. "We're not going to try and re-do the old Full House stories, but I think that we will capture the same feel of the show."
Helping to capture the same feel of the original? The return of some of the original stars!
While Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie!), Andrea Barber (Kimmy!) and Stamos, who will serve as a producer, are all confirmed for the new series, Netflix revealed they are still in talks with Lori Loughlin, Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Bob Saget and Dave Coulier about reprising their fan-favorite roles, and Cameron-Bure is hopeful they will all come back.
"I hope so! They're planning for the first episode to be like a reunion show, so they've reached out to all the cast members and hopefully everyone will come back," she said, adding, "We'll start production this summer."
But Loughlin (That's Aunt Becky to you!) recently spoke out about her issues with returning for the revival, saying, "They decided to it'd be great to open the show with a one-hour reunion. The only thing is, they only made deals with half the cast, but not the other half...I think we would all like to come back if the powers that be are fair to all of us."
