Prince Harry's Ex Cressida Bonas Reveals How to Survive as a Royal's Significant Other

Couple split about a year ago and her career has taken off

Forget about living happily ever after with a prince! Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas revealed that life as a royal's plus one isn't all that it seems cracked up to be, much to our own chagrins.

In an interview with the U.K.'s The Sunday Times, Bonas dished that constant publicity—which was often inaccurate reporting—became increasingly overwhelming. Fortunately, she figured out the best way to survive as a royal's girlfriend...ignore it!

"All that stuff is not real," she said. "It's really important to remember that all of it is noise, noise that can be very loud at times."

Staying true to who she is, Bonas was able to overcome the constant attention by focusing on her own career instead of on what it means to be dating Prince Harry, which could be overwhelming at times. "I'm a lion. I'm not tough, but I am strong," she said, adding, "I'm definitely not a wallflower."

Since splitting from her redheaded boyfriend, Bonas' career has surged. She landed a high-profile fashion campaign with Mulberry and scored several successful acting jobs. She just finished playing Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest onstage and will soon begin filming Tulip Fever alongside Judi Dench. She also recently nabbed her first Vogue cover shoot.

Despite it all, she admitted that sometimes she can get bogged down in the mean comments British press has printed about her. But thanks to some wise advice from her mom and a good head on her shoulders, she has been able to block it out over the years.

"But if I ever feel like, 'Oh, my life!' or get upset by silly things like a photographer, or if someone has written something nasty that's upset me, I just think, 'Worse things happen at sea,'" she sid.

As for the advice from her mom? "Be true to yourself and do whatever makes you happy," Cressida told the paper. "If you're not happy, then stop. There's no point in carrying on."
