John Lennon's first wife, Cynthia Lennon, has passed away today at the age of 75.

Her son with the Beatles star, Julian Lennon, announced the tragic news on his website with the following statement:

"Cynthia Lennon passed away today at her home in Mallorca, Spain following a short but brave battle with cancer. Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time."

Julian posted song lyrics that were penned in his mother's honor as well as a video montage showing some never-before-seen childhood photos and home videos.

The lyrics included, "You gave your life for me/ You gave your life for love/ The feeling still remains/ Though you're on a different plane/ Your world is full of angels/ You've become one/ With God above you're free."

The heartfelt ballad continued, "You are so beautiful/ The love you left behind will carry on/ You gave your heart and soul to everyone."

Cynthia and John were married in 1962 while she was pregnant with her only child, whom she gave birth to in April the following year at Sefton Hospital.

The two later divorced in 1968, and she went on to marry Roberto Bassanini, John Twist and Noel Charles over the years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lennon family during this difficult time.
