Now this is supa dupa fly!

On Thursday, Katy Perry, the main performer at the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show, told reporters that in addition to previously announced guest Lenny Kravitz, another female artist will also take the stage. She said, "It's a bit old school. But I think when this person enters the stage and you hear the first ring of the chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt."

On Friday, following several reports, sources confirmed to E! News that the mystery female she is talking about is Missy Elliott, adding that the hip-hop and R&B star was spotted at a Super Bowl halftime show sound check a day earlier. Elliott, Perry and the NFL have not commented.

Many fans took to Twitter to express their excitement about the reports.

Eliott was featured on a remix of Perry's 2011 single "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." Both she and Perry are known for their eclectic stage costumes.

Elliott wore a blowup suit, made out of black patent leather and a tire inner tube, for her now-iconic 1997 music video "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)."

She had to be taken to a gas station to inflate the suit, designer and celebrity stylist June Ambrose told NPR last year, adding, "The contraption was very small deflated, but once you blew it up, it was the size of maybe a 900 pound man."

Elliott took the outfit a step further (way further) when she performed at the second Lilith Fair tour in 1998. She was the female artist ensemble tour's first hip-hop performer.

Elliott, who also released hits such as "Get Ur Freak On" and "Work It," last toured in 2012 and last year, performed at events such as the 2014 Soul Train Awards and the 2014 BET Awards.

The NFL Super Bowl XLIX, which pits the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots, kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT and airs live on NBC.
