Ah, 2005. American Idol was still the top TV show, and George W. Bush was "the decider."

We wouldn't say things were simpler a decade ago, but they were certainly interesting! Let's hop back a decade and remember why your friends couldn't stop quoting Hitch.

If you're a 10-year-old reading about these things for the first time: Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey were like the Prince William and Kate Middleton of our time—but alas—their love burned too bright and now Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica serves as the sole time capsule to remember what romance is, or should we say, was.

1. Wentworth Miller played Mariah Carey's love interest in her "We Belong Together" music video, which served as a sexual awakening for soooo many millennials.

2. We have been busting out Kevin James' Hitch dance moves since the movie dropped in 2005. So good!

3. How I Met Your Mother premiered its first legen (wait for it)… dary season!

OWN

4. Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah's couch because of... love?

5. The movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith was released! Oh, and Jennifer Aniston divorced Brad Pitt so he could become one-half of Brangelina.

FOX

6. Carrie Underwood won Season 4 of American Idol. Now she has 6 Grammys, a super-cute baby bump, and much better hair. (Sorry to all the Constantine Maroulis diehards!)

7. Demi Moore adopted, err, married Ashton Kutcher!

8. Destiny's Child announced their official breakup, and we cried all the tears.

9. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith hit theaters, and we thought the series was complete. Spoiler: The Force has awakened to the sound of more box office dollars.

10. Jessica Simpson filed for divorce from Nick Lachey. Who knew reality TV love couldn't last? We were so innocent then!

11. Kristen Wiig made her debut on Saturday Night Live, and she's been making us laugh ever since!

12. Sites like Facebook and MySpace expanded to include high school students, and our timelines were never the same.

13. The Colbert Report premiered on Comedy Central to teach us about truthiness and a very justified fear of bears.

14. R. Kelly weirded everybody out by playing all of the roles from his R&B opera "Trapped in the Closet" during the MTV VMAs. Seriously, how did he get all that stage time?

15. The Aviator nabbed the most Academy Award nominations (11) and wins (5), but Leo walked away empty-handed.

People

16. Matthew McConaughey was crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive because he's so hot all the time, every year, so why not 2005?

17. Kanye West. A Concert for Hurricane Relief. George W. Mike Myers' face.
