Could The View handle Sarah Palin?

The former vice presidential candidate and current reality star—Sportsman Channel's Amazing America With Sarah Palin has been picked up for a second season—told The Hollywood Reporter she would "maybe" be interested in doing a political talk show.

"But the politics would have to be interspersed with a whole lot of fun and real life and inspiration showcasing American work ethic, because those topics are all pretty much the antithesis of today's politics, which I find incorrigibly disastrous! It'd be so much fun to shake it up taking on issues that make audiences objectively consider all sides, and I'd do it with my own real-life groundedness, candor and commonsense that I'm known for. Media needs that today, versus the condescension that oozes from TV and radio," she said.

"I hear everyone recently got canned from The View, maybe a show like that needs a punch of reality and a voice of reason from America's heartland to knock some humble sense into their scripts. You know, someone willing to go rogue," Palin told THR.

The View recently parted ways with Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd after Barbara Walters retired from hosting duties in May. Whoopi Goldberg is the only remaining host set to return to the program for season 18 in September. Whoopi and Sarah Palin on a daily basis? Seems like explosive television.

News of Shepherd and McCarthy's exits broke while the show was on vacation and the duo discussed their departures on the Monday, July 7 show.

Initial reports had Shepherd and ABC at a contract negotiation impasse, but Shepherd said she kept the news private out of respect for Walters. "I didn't want to do anything to distract from Barbara Walters and our celebration of her retirement in May," she said. "You guys know that I often talk about my faith. I'm a woman of faith and seven in the Bible is the number of God's completion. And I've been here seven years, and my time at The View is complete."

ABC maintains all names are just speculation at this point. Other rumored people up for the open spots include Mario Cantone and Rosie O'Donnell.
