While some sources are claiming that they split two months ago, one insider tells us that J.Lo didn't call things off until two weeks ago.
The two made their last public appearance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on May 18.
J.Lo even thanked Smart in her acceptance speech for the 2014 Icon Award.
At the same event, Smart told pals that he was going to be joining Lopez in the Bronx for her concert because he had choreographed part of the show. He was, however, not in attendance for the event.
Meanwhile, another source close to the situation tells us that Smart received a phone call late last night telling him that things were done once and for all.
The decision apparently came in the wake of reports that Smart had been sexting with a transsexual he met through Instagram. Smart has denied all claims.
We're told that Smart was blindsided by reports this morning that the American Idol judge broke up with him months ago.
"Whether there is any truth to what is being reported or not, it's irrelevant. Jennifer did not trust him," our source tells us. "The relationship had not been right for a while. Smart was never going to be the love of her life, but he was fun and a nice guy to be around. It stopped being fun once his friendships with other people started to come to light."
But truth be told, their relationship did have its positives.
"Smart was a good distraction post-Marc [Anthony]. He was good to her. He was meant to be easy and fun, and when that was gone, she didn't want to be in the relationship anymore."
Our insider adds, "There is no one else. They will remain friends."
Reps for J.Lo and Smart are not commenting.
