Watch: "Ugly Betty" Reunion in the Works?

Zac Efron is up for doing a High School Musical reunion. The same can't be said for Bill Cosby and The Cosby Show.

Well, how about an Ugly Betty reunion?

"There will be an Ugly Betty reunion, but I don't know if it's going to be on camera," Betty star America Ferrera told me at the SXSW premiere of her new film, Cesar Chavez. "We see each other all the time."

What a tease!

"Anything's possible," Ferrera said. "It's wonderful when fans ask and when they're so excited about it, that hunger to see those characters and the world they live in. I think a lot of things would have to come together to make that happen and, you know, I'll never say never."

Ugly Betty premiered on ABC in September 2006 and ran for almost four years. Ferrera starred as Betty Suarez, a 22-year-old Mexican American from Queens, New York, with a heart of gold but no fashion sense who finds herself working at the Vogue-like Mode magazine. The series was based on a Colombian telenovela, Yo soy Betty, la fea.

Ferrera's role in Cesar Chavez, a biopic about the iconic farm workers activist and union leader, is a far cry from her comedy work.

She plays Chavez's widow. "Helen Chavez is still alive. She's 86," Ferrera said. "I got to spend time with her and she's sharp as a tack. I definitely felt the need to do her justice."

Helen, Ferrera said, "picketed and got arrested adn ran the credit union. She was a doer and women in our community are doers and that should be reflected in the stories we tell."

Directed by Diego Luna, Cesar Chavez is in theaters on March 28 and also stars Michael Peña, Rosario Dawson, Gabriel Mann and John Malkovich.
