While making the publicity rounds for her starring role in Hallmark Channel's first original series, Cedar Cove, the 55-year-old beauty talked about her TV watching habits.
And while she lavished praise on The Newsroom, MacDowell couldn't resist expressing her distaste for Lena Dunham's critically acclaimed series about twentysomething angst—due in no small part to its characters' messy sexual encounters.
"I just watched the whole first season of Girls with my daughters. I probably won't watch the second season—it was too immature for me—but it was interesting," the actress confessed to Ad Week. "I'm going to sound like an ancient person, but I was rather shocked at what they can show on TV now."
We guess we can't blame her given the wholesome show she's now on.
Then again, this is the same Andie who shot to fame in Steven Soderbergh's 1989 indie classic, Sex, Lies and Videotape, which is known for its sexual frankness considering it tells the story of a man who films women discussing their sexuality.
MacDowell continued her success in the '90s playing the female leads in such comedies as Green Card, Groundhog Day and Four Weddings and a Funeral and won accolades for 1993's Short Cuts. More recently, she appeared in 2011's Footloose remake before making her move to the small screen.
To be fair, she's not the only one who's over Girls' often joyless, blunt portrayal of sex.
A number of Netizens took issue with Dunham's Hannah having steamy sex with the hunky Patrick Wilson, prompting both actors to hit back in defense of the storyline. While other viewers have singled out scenes like an extremely graphic one involving Adam Sackler's character and a new girlfriend.
