Watch: Julia Roberts Returns to the Red Carpet

Julia Roberts admits that she doesn't hit the red carpet very often these days, but when the actress does turn up at a major event, she does not disappoint.

"I do it so rarely now," she told E! News at the 2013 Hollywood Film Awards on Monday, Oct. 21 in Beverly Hills. "So it's fun," she added.

The Oscar winner looked stunning on the carpet (as she always does), wearing a white floral Elie Saab frock with matching bright pink pumps and soft wavy curls.

Roberts is part of the highly anticipated ensemble drama, August: Osage County, and she revealed that the diverse cast bonded and shared stories to become a "family."

"Well, it's great because you are able to see the rhythms of people, and John Wells, our director, really wanted us to kind of imitate each other in that family way," she explained. "Where like, my sister and I, we don't look alike. But as soon as we start telling stories, we look like the same person. So he wanted that sense in our movie, which I think was really important, so the more time we spent together and watched each other, it would become second nature."

The film adaptation of Tracy Letts' play focuses on an estranged Oklahoma family coming together for a funeral, and includes a star-studded cast. Along with Roberts, Chris Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney (aw, My Best Friend's Wedding reunion!), Ewan McGregor costar in the flick, with Meryl Streep playing the lead role as the family's dysfunctional matriarch.

And even though she is making a return to the big screen, family is still Roberts' No. 1 priority.

"If a job like this comes along, and it...can't be passed on, then I'll go do that because I still have my creative independent side and I have to break away from the nest, as my husband keeps reminding me," she said. "It's really difficult!"
