Barack Obama is quick on his feet—in more ways than one.
The President of the United States took the podium in Washington D.C. today to discuss the rollout of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and after nearly 30 minutes into his speech under the hot sun a pregnant female supporter standing behind Obama began to feel lightheaded and started to lose her equilibrium.
But have no fear, POTUS is near.
President Obama became aware of what was going on over his shoulder and turned around to lend Karmel Allison some support.
"I gotcha, you're OK," he said as he put his arm out to steady her, and then he decided to make a joke out of the situation and added, "No, no. You're OK. This happens when I talk too long. "
Quickly afterward, a White House aide came to escort Allison off the stage as Obama continued with his speech, which came to end shortly after the situation occurred (maybe he didn't want anyone else fainting?).
"But that's always our goal, to free families from the pervasive fear that one illness or one injury might cost you everything that you dedicated a lifetime to build. Our goal has always been to declare that in this country the security of health care is not a privilege for a fortunate few, it's a right for all to enjoy," he said.
"That's what the Affordable Care Act's all about. That's it's promise. And I intend to deliver on that promise. Thank you very much, everybody. God bless you."
Meanwhile, the mommy-to-be, who also revealed that she's suffering from Type 1 Diabetes, made sure to extend her gratitude to POTUS on Twitter.
"I'm ok world- just got a little lightheaded.Thanks, @BarackObama for catching me! And good thing this pregnant diabetic is pregnant :)."
