Katy Perry has spoken in the past about her divorce from Russell Brand, but now the singer has opened up like never before about their doomed relationship.

"I'm not the kind of person who is always like, 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,'" the "Roar" songstress told The Sunday Times in a new interview regarding the split. "I was in bed for about two weeks. I was pretty f--ked, yes. It hurt a lot—I got a good knock."

She added, "Unfortunately, although I had the outward self-identity, I didn't have the inner kind, I hadn't built that up. My self-worth was in someone else's hands which is never a good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And it was, and it was shattered."

Perry, who is busy promoting her new album, Prism, went on to reveal that the breakup from Brand inspired much of the music found on the disc.

"What I wanted to call this record at first was Adult Reality because Teenage Dream was so high on that cotton candy cloud, and then it's like I got punched in the face and kicked down the stairs a couple of times," Perry said. "So I had to face the reality that things are not always on cloud nine."

These days, of course, Perry is dating John Mayer.

A source told E! News last week the artists are "very serious" about each other, and we're hearing that those close to the couple wouldn't be surprised if they got engaged in the not-so-distant future.
