Paul McCartney has a suggestion for all the Miley Cyrus haters disturbed by her controversial MTV VMAs performance: Let it be.

While performing an intimate gig for BBC Radio in London this week, the 71-year-old rock legend was asked by DJ and TV presenter Jo Whiley what he thought about the 20-year-old pop princess' twerking, prompting McCartney to quip, "disgusting!"

"Of course I don't mean it," he said, according to the U.K.'s Express. "I don't understand why everyone's saying, 'Ooh she shouldn't do that!' It is nothing we haven't seen before. I mean she's a young girl and these days in that kind of field that she's in there's a lot of noise."

Macca noted the challenge younger artists have getting peoples' attention in this fast-paced, Internet-driven age.

"So you've got to do something to get above the chatter and that's what you'll see a lot of the guys, a lot of the girls, doing," he continued. "I don't think it was bad at all. She looked good, I thought."

McCartney also said Cyrus' stage antics aren't much different from what her more famous predecessors like Britney Spears and Madonna have done.

As for whether he'd give the ol' bump and grind a go, he added: "I can twerk with the best of them!"

The former Beatle's latest comments on the "We Can't Stop" singer's booty-shaking come just days after he first weighed in on the subject to Sky News.

McCartney called her dance moves "only mildly shocking" and said he didn't have a problem letting his 10-year-old daughter watch Cyrus twerking.

Sir Paul has been doing the publicity rounds to promote his latest album, New, including a surprise mini-concert in New York's Times Square last week and holding a master class and performance for high school students in Queens.
