Buckingham Palace Arrest: Man Carrying Knife Nabbed Outside Gates

London's Finest collar a woould-be trespasser who had a weapon in his possession

The royals can breathe a sigh of relief.

An unidentified intruder has been arrested after attempting to enter Buckingham Palace with a knife.

According to Scotland Yard, a 44-year-old man tried to get into the palace grounds at the north centre gate at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time Monday when he was apprehended by police.

A search turned up the knife, which authorities promptly confiscated. The man was then taken to a London police station and booked on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody.

There were no injuries and Queen Elizabeth II was not in the Palace at the time of the incident.

Of course, Prince William, Kate Middleton and their newborn son Prince George weren't anywhere near the royal residence. That's because the trio just moved into their renovated quarters in Kensington Palace, humbly known as Apartment 1-A, and are busily gearing up for George's christening set for Oct. 23.

This is the second time this year a would-be home invader has been arrested with a bladed weapon at Buckingham Palace.

A 54-year-old ex-Tory candidate was collared outside the gates after launching into a tirade and pulling out two knives and threatening to cut himself. He was eventually subdued after police shot him with a Taser.
