Katy Perry (Kind of) Shades Rihanna: She Wears Great Clothes But Gets the Wrong Kind of Attention

What works for Rihanna doesn't work for Katy Perry, according to the "Roar" singer herself. Speaking to the U.K.'s 95-106 Capital FM earlier this week, the 28-year-old musician explained why she won't be twerking up a storm in thongs and bra tops like her BFF did in the just-released "Pour It Up" music video.

"Maybe I'm just getting a little bit older and as you get older you realize, 'Oh I don't know if I can pull that off anymore,'" Perry said of toning down her look. "I mean, if I had Rihanna's body I would wear everything that Rihanna wears because she looks fabulous in all of it."

Unlike her pop peers, "I think I want to keep the attention on my music," Perry added. "I really have a lot of confidence in my songs that are coming out, and that's where I need most of the focus."

Is John Mayer's girlfriend trying to distance herself from the Barbadian beauty? After all, in the October issue of Elle Canada, Perry seemed to give her pal a backhanded compliment. "I think Rihanna always looks so fresh and I'm like, 'How do you do that? We all know how much pot you smoke!'" she told the fashion magazine. "'And you don't sleep because you're on Instagram at 4 o'clock in the morning!'"

In the same article, she made similar comments about wanting to mature as a woman and an artist. "When you're at the end of your 20s, it's a very important growing time. It's called the Saturn return, if you like astrology—I know it's important for me. I think that it's a very important time, when you kind of let go of childish things and accept the wisdom that comes with age," Perry said. "That's exactly where I am now."
