The first photo of the erstwhile Dancing Queen in Disney's Into the Woods has surfaced, and by the looks of her transformation into a gray-haired, dangerous old hag with long nails and an evil stare, she's definitely not one to be trifled with.
The musical fantasy, based on the popular Broadway musical written by James Lapine and sporting a score by Stephen Sondheim, finds Streep's vengeful witch casting a nasty spell on a host of popular Grimm fairy tale characters in order to teach them a lesson.
This is the three-time Oscar winner's second stint singing on celluloid, having starred in 2008's big-screen tuner adapted from the smash ABBA musical.
The all-star cast includes Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Chris Pine as Prince Charming, Johnny Depp as the Big Bad Wolf, Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood, James Corden as The Baker, and Emily Blunt as The Baker's Wife, among others.
Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall—the man behind 2002's Oscar-winning Chicago as well as 2009's Nine—started shooting this week in the U.K
It's slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day, 2014.
