For better or worse, Lamar Odom is living life on his own terms. Sources tell E! News exclusively that just last week, one of the athlete's East Coast pals tried to stage an intervention on his behalf. Unfortunately, their planned meeting never took place.

"A friend went [to L.A. last week] to reach out and try to help him," an insider reveals. "Lamar was supposed to meet him but never showed up."

His absence was somewhat surprising, given that Odom was initially on board with the idea. According to another source, the 33-year-old "seemed to be cooperating with the idea" of having an intervention. "Just before he was due to get help," the source explains, "Lamar went missing."

As previously reported by E! News, Odom has been keeping a low profile by staying at his L.A. apartment. He was most recently spotted around dinnertime on Wednesday, Sept. 25. "He looked great and healthy," an eyewitness said of Khloé Kardashian Odom's hubby.

Odom—who spent less than 24 hours in rehab earlier this month to address substance abuse issues—was recently charged with one count of DUI stemming from his Aug. 30 arrest. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27, in Van Nuys, Calif.—the same day he and his reality star wife will celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary.
