Daniel Day-Lewis as the Next James Bond? Why 007 Author Thinks Oscar Winner Should Play the Super Spy

William Boyd says the actor best resembles what Bond creator Ian Fleming described in his books

Daniel Day-Lewis has effectively played a wide range of characters (Three Oscars. Hello!), so why not James Bond, right?

Well, he would certainly get William Boyd's vote.

The British author, who just wrote the latest 007 book Solo, believes the Lincoln actor would be an ideal candidate if they ever turned his novel into a movie.

"He actually resembles the Bond that [007creator Ian] Fleming describes in the books," Boyd told reporters during a book signing in London on Wednesday regarding Day-Lewis, the BBC reports. "That's someone who looks like the American singer-songwriter Hoagy Carmichael—a tall, lean, rangy, very dark-haired, good-looking man."

Whether or not Day-Lewis ever actually portrays the suave super spy remains to be seen, of course.

In the meantime, Daniel Craig will be back as Bond when 007's 24th outing hits theaters at the end of 2015.

Skyfall director Sam Mendes recently announced that he would be returning to helm the upcoming movie.

"I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honor all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24," Mendes said in a statement back in July. "I very much look forward to taking up the reigns again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time."
