There were a lot of reactions to Miley Cyrus' rump-shaking 2013 MTV VMA performance, but lamenting the a lack of twerking shots was not one of them. Until now.

The singer's stylist (for the show) Lisa Katnic told The Cut she felt viewers "didn't really get to see Amazon Ashley's butt twerking—which is an amazing sight." She shares. "I feel bad for people who had to watch the performance on-camera. It was a spectacle in person."

She further defends the star choice of backup dancers. "Somebody said that it was racist for a white girl to have three black girls as props onstage to benefit herself," she says. "It's misinformed because [those dancers] L.A. Bakers are in the ["We Can't Stop"] video. At this point, Miley and the L.A. Bakers are friends, and Amazon Ashley? They're friends in real life. They go out to lunch."

Indeed this mirrors what Miley herself recently told Rolling Stone magazine: "I don't keep my producers or dancers around 'cause it makes me look cool. Those aren't my 'accessories.' They're my homies," Cyrus says.

As for the pop star's look, which some have referred to as "ratchet," Lisa says that is most definitely not the look they were aiming for. Nor was it what was written on wardobe memos. "That was camp."
