As if Scandal wasn't twisted enough, Tony Goldwyn says things will get even worse next season.

"It actually gets really dark," Goldwyn, who plays the president of the United States on the hit series, told me last night at HBO's Emmys party.

Darker than the president killing a Supreme Court justice?

Yup!

"The thing about season three is all of the sort of strands of the different characters' agendas and issues kind of come together…without so much pyrotechnics but in a much deeper kind of darker way, more rooted into our characters," Goldwyn said.

As for the reveal in the final seconds of last season that Olivia Pope's father is Rowan, the B613 commanding officer, Goldwyn said, "Her dad's a scary dude. So that all gets really weird."

And here's hoping for more of those sex scenes between Goldwyn and Kerry Washington. "It just works because we really connect as people, we love each other, we have great respect for each other and we just don't kind of think about it," Goldwyn said.

And, fortunately, his wife is understanding. "My wife's awesome," Goldwyn said, "because we're both in the business and she's not surprised by any of it."

Scandal's third season premieres on Oct. 3.
