That's precisely what Nurse Jackie's Merritt Wever did when she accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
It could very well have been due to the fact that she was starstruck by presenters Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (who earned their own laughs, natch), but there's no doubt that her speech set the night off to a hilariously quirky start.
This marks the star's first Emmy, which may also explain why she was practically speechless when she walked onstage.
While clutching her award, she addressed the crowd by saying, "Thank you so much."
But without much to add, she immediately said, "I gotta go, bye" and walked offstage.
The moment lasted all of maybe 10 seconds, tops, but left a lasting impression.
We've been told that show producers won't be using music to cut out winners if their speeches go too long, but it seems as though they won't be needing it if everyone takes a cue from Wever.
In the press room Wever explained her speech a bit further.
"I know I wanted to thank a lot of people," she told reporters. "I don't know…I'm scared because it was unexpected, so I don't know how I feel yet. I mean, I have therapy next week."
Congrats to Wever on her big win!
