We get it, Demi. If we were making out with Naya Rivera, we'd be honored, too.

Of course, there is more to Demi Lovato's role on Glee's fifth season than just kissing another woman. The X Factor judge stopped by Ryan Seacrest's radio show this morning to chat about joining the cast and what playing Santana's love interest means to her.

"I don't want people to take from this, ‘Oh my god, Demi is kissing a girl,'" the "Heart Attack" singer explains to Seacrest. "I want people to take from it [that] this is actually an incredible step in our generation today where I'm able to play a young lesbian on primetime TV. I'm honored to be able to be hopefully inspiring people with my character to be who they are and not be afraid of it or ashamed."

And it turns out, Lovato has known many members of the cast for a long time, so she felt right at home on her very first day.

"It's been awesome," Demi said. "[Naya and I] had our first episode together this last week and I'm good friends with a lot of the cast members already, so it was like walking into a giant hang-out."

Lovato will be playing Dani, a New York friend of Rachel's (Lea Michele) who falls for Santana. Rivera recently opened up to Latina magazine about how proud she feels to represent the LGBT community on Glee.

"There are very few ethnic LGBT characters on television, so I am honored to represent them," she said. "I love supporting this cause, but it's a big responsibility, and sometimes it's a lot of pressure on me."

Glee returns with season five on Thursday, Sept. 26
