And they weren't alone—Hoult was on an outing with Lawrence and one of her brothers, Ben, who was visiting with his wife and baby.
A source tells E! News Jennifer became upset when she noticed she was being photographed with her ex, so the Oscar-winning actress hid behind her brother to dodge the prying paps.
Lawrence's sister-in-law then began to yell at the photogs, prompting J.Law to flip the bird at the troublesome shutterbugs.
In an attempt to escape the cameras, the group went back to the Silver Lining star's home, where Hoult stayed for at least three more hours.
The source also tells E! News Jennifer and Nicholas have been hanging out a lot over the past few weeks, always behind closed doors or near trailers to avoid attention.
Beast and Mystique pulled the plug on their romance earlier this year but have remained amiable toward one another, with Hoult wishing nothing but the best for his ex when she went on an awards-season tear, culminating in her Oscar win in March.
Back on set, Lawrence was spotted in head-to-toe blue (and a touch of red) Mystique mode during her lunch break.
