Hot off the heels of the news that Debra Messing has been cast in a CBS pilot is a report from the New York Daily News that series star Katharine McPhee is also jumping off the sinking Smash ship.

"She refuses to do any interviews pertaining to Smash now," a N.Y. Daily News source claims. "She'll only talk about magazines she's in and her music. She knows it was a failure and she doesn't want her name linked to it, because nothing she has done has been a big hit. She wanted to break through and be a big star by the time she was 30."

So what's the real story? Not this one.

McPhee's reps deny any reports of the American Idol alum's desire to leave Smash behind before the season is over. Smash is mostly dead (which is a different from being "all dead") due to low ratings and the deadly move to Saturday nights beginning April 6. But NBC has yet to make any announcements on the future of the series.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
