Although optimistic romantics might hope otherwise, Dennis Quaid isn't playing for keeps this time.

A report has surfaced claiming that the 58-year-old actor and his estranged wife, Kimberly Quaid, 41, are giving their marriage a second shot after the actor filed for divorce in November following a string of stop-and-go attempts by the two to save their relationship.

Reportedly, the couple have decided to try and patch things up amid divorce proceeding that couldn't be halted—a supposed development that's at odds with the cold, hard truth.

"It is not true," Quaid's rep tells E! News exclusively. "They are divorcing."

The couple's tumultuous relationship has seen its share of very public ups and downs.

In March 2012, Kimberly filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. But two months later, she pulled the plug on that as the couple attempted to work on their relationship, even heading to Bora Bora for a romantic getaway to celebrate their anniversary.

The renewed honeymoon wouldn't last for long: In October, Kimberly filed for legal separation, and a month later, the Playing for Keeps star filed for divorce.

He is seeking joint custody of their 5-year-old twins, son Thomas and daughter Zoe Grace.
