The night is darkest just before the dawn. And on one dark Thursday night (last night, to be specific), a verified Twitter handle for Pontifical Council for Social Communications tweeted about the Dark Knight:

"Holy switcheroo! Batman has grown bitter, more vengeful with the years," read the seemingly bizarre tweet, linking to an article on their site that detailed the evolution of the Caped Crusader.

Many wondered whether the Vatican's security had been breached, but officials explained that it was an "internal" error due to a non-native English speaker with a quick Twitter finger posting the story to the site, which generated an automatic tweet.

Yet the tweet remains on the Council's Twitter feed, which leads to a second explanation conspiracy theory: We have elected a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a pope (who also happens to be Batman!!!).

Proof? Look no further than His Holiness Pope Francis' most recent tweet: "True power is service. The Pope must serve all people, especially the poor, the weak, the vulnerable."

Hmm, cool cool. Sounds like Batman to us.
