Looks like the case of how to get a Veronica Mars movie made has finally been cracked.

Ever since the cult series' cancellation in  2007, fans—not to mention star Kristen Bell and creator Rob Thomas—have been clamoring for a big screen version. Today, that dream took a big step towards reality with the launch of an official Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign.

The campaign, potentially the largest in Kickstarter  history, calls for fans to donate $2 million in order to fund the film. In exchange, fans not only get the satisfaction of knowing they helped one of TV's best private-eye series of all time make the big-screen leap, but they can also score such VM-related goodies as a copy of the movie script or a cameo in the film depending on how much cash they shell out. If the goal is reached by April 12—and it's well on its way, with nearly $795,000 pledged already—the movie will shoot this summer and be released in spring 2014.

Check out the clever promo video--featuring appearances from Bell, Thomas and a certain someone with a smoldering gaze--below for more deets.
