Stephen Baldwin May Be Off the Hook in Tax-Dodging Case

Youngest Baldwin bro may avoid the joint for allegedly failing to pay his taxes—that is, if his lawyer can iron out an agreement with prosecutors

During a break from a court conference on Monday in Rockland County, N.Y., Stephen Baldwin's lawyer says he's reached a tentative deal with prosecutors that could see the 46-year-old actor escape jail time in his tax-dodging case.

Baldwin is accused of failing to file personal income tax returns to the State of New York for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, bringing his total tax burden to more than $350,000 with penalties and interest.

According to a published report, attorney Russell Yankwitt is quoted as saying the Rockland County District Attorney's Office informed him the Half-Baked star wouldn't have to do time as long as he pleaded guilty this month to a tax felony and paid the money back within a year. Should Baldwin do so, then his record would be wiped clean.

The actor, who's the youngest of the four Baldwin brothers, remains free on bail and is currently competing on Donald Trump's All-Star Celebrity Apprentice, which premiered last week.

Yankwitt was in court and could not be reached for comment. But a resolution in the matter could be announced as early as today.

UPDATE: Baldwin pleaded guilty on March 29 to failing to pay income taxes for 2008, 2009 and 2010 and will have his record wiped clean if he pays up the remaining $300,000 he owes within a year.
