Naomi Campbell Accepts Libel Damages Over False Elephant Polo Story

Newspaper had falsely claimed the supermodel had planned a tournament for her boyfriend's 50th birthday

Naomi Campbell is victorious.

The supermodel has won a libel case against the Daily Telegraph over a false article the U.K. newspaper ran claiming Campbell was organizing an elephant polo match in India.

The story, which ran last November, said Campbell was planning the tournament as part of a bash in Jodhpur to celebrate her billionaire beau Vladislav Doronin turning 50.

The article was subsequently republished widely across the Internet and led to criticism by several animal rights groups.

In court on Thursday, Campbell received an apology as well as libel damages. The amount was not disclosed.

"There were never plans to hold an elephant polo tournament, so the allegations should not have been published," Campbell said in a statement. "However, I am glad that the matter has been resolved and I accept the newspaper's apology."
