Broward Sheriff's OfficeChad Johnson (aka The Artist Formerly Known as Ochocinco) is staying out of the slammer.
The former NFL and VH1 star will not spend any time in jail following the misdemeanor battery charge brought against him, stemming from his domestic-violence arrest last month for allegedly roughing up his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada.
Johnson's attorney Adam Swickle tells E! News that Chad appeared in a Florida courtroom Friday morning and pleaded no contest to the charges after working out a deal with prosecutors earlier in the week.
"This was a fair resolution to a difficult situation," Swickle tells E! News.
In exchange for staying out of the big house, the former NFL wide receiver and Dancing With the Stars contender was sentenced to 12 months' probation and is required to spend 26 weeks in a battery intervention program. The program will be conducted through private counseling with a private therapist, and once it's completed, Swickle says he will enter Chad into an early probation termination program.
"Chad is ready to move on with his life and he is ready to put all this behind him," Swickle tells E! News. "He always lands back on his feet."
The judge also issued a no-contact order for the rest of Johnson's probation, during which he is not to have contact with his ex-wife in any way (it's very standard in cases like this). Swickle adamantly insists "this won't be an issue."
When asked if Johnson planned on a return to the NFL, Swickle stated that was a question for the footballer's superstar agent, Drew Rosenhaus, but added, "He's made no secret for his love of the game."
Johnson was dropped from the Miami Dolphins before the season began after he was arrested for domestic violence on Aug. 11 following an argument between him and his Basketball Wives bride that turned violent when he allegedly head-butted her.
VH1 also axed the couple's reality show, Ev and Ocho, in the wake of the incident, and Lozada subsequently filed for divorce, which was officially finalized Wednesday.
