Just ask Lucy Hale, star of the ABC Family series Pretty Little Liars, and Chris Zylka, the actor best known for playing Flash Thompson in The Amazing Spider-Man. Zylka, 27, and Hale, 23, first hooked up last March and all seemed rosy despite juggling hectic careers: Aside from her TV show, she recently cinched a deal with Hollywood Records to record an album, while he landed a part on the FX hit American Horror Story.
But now the lovebirds have officially broken up—that's according to Zylka who dropped the bomb Sunday on Twitter in response to a fan who told him his "girlfriend is gorgeous."
"Don't have a girlfriend. She decided she was too good," Chris tweeted.
And per Zylka's not-so-subtle follow-up tweet, it doesn't sound like the split was amicable.
"There's a difference between celebrities and movie stars. Celebrities fade away, while movie stars stick around forever," the thesp wrote.
Ouch! Lets hope he wasn't referring to his ex.
Zylka then reached back into his '90s alternative rock catalogue for a more apt statement reflecting his feelings, posting a quote from the Smashing Pumpkins' song "Bullet With Butterfly Wings."
"Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage, someone who said what was lost can never be saved," he tweeted.
Where's Cupid when ya need him? A few days later, Chris seemed to be in better spirits, opining, "Never any disrespect towards anyone. Only if you say what you say you should stick to it. If you say you love then love."
He then added, "With my momma!!! So nice having her around."
While Zylka was getting what sounded like a much-needed morale boost from his family, Hale seemed to be handling their relationship's demise just fine.
For starters, she retweeted some advice fellow actress Zelda Williams (Robin Williams' daughter) passed along to her: "You are worth what you think you deserve. Regard yourself highly, treat yourself well, work hard & never settle. The rest is just patience."
She then mused: "It's not who you were, it's who you are."
