You weren't hallucinating—there was a lot of skin peeking through all of those filmy black frocks on the red carpet this awards season.

Black illusion dresses were everywhere!

From the Critics Choice Awards, where Kirsten Dunst pulled an omigod with a frilly, Christian A-Dior-able cocktail dress, to the Vanity Fair Academy Awards afterparty, where Diane Kruger showed some sexy side boobage in a floor-length Emilio Pucci, Hollywood's ingénues were showing—and yet still covering—a bit more skin than usual.

This look can def be gorgeous.

Elizabeth Olsen totally nailed it with minimal accessories and simple waves to accompany her sheer floor-length Dior gown. Unfortunately, Ginnifer Goodwin missed the mark by pairing her Peter Som cocktail dress with an awkward necklace and thick strappy shoes that cut her off at the ankles.

Where do you weigh in on this diaphanous style? Could this be a new trend? Or is it just an illusion?
