Mike Myers is giving his old Austin Powers character a run for his money as he makes a rare dramatic turn, joining the ensemble cast of Quentin Tarantino's upcoming war epic, Inglorious Bastards, which the latter is writing and directing.

Per Variety, the comic actor will play British Gen. Ed Fenech, a brilliant military mastermind who sends a group of roughneck soldiers behind enemy lines during World War II to assassinate various Nazi leaders and wreak havoc throughout the Third Reich.

Brad Pitt has been tapped for the film along with Eli Roth, while Tarantino is said to be in talks with Simon Pegg, B.J. Novak and Nastassja Kinski to fill out the remaining parts.

Meanwhile, Myers' fellow Saturday Night Live alum and star of NBC's 30 Rock, Tina Fey, is set to join forces with The Office's Steve Carell on a very different sort of mission—the date from hell.

The two have signed up for 20th Century Fox's comedy Date Night, about a married couple who go out on a routine date and find themselves embarking on a much wilder night than they planned.

The movie will be helmed by Shawn Levy, who directed Fox's hit Night at the Museum and its upcoming sequel.

Shooting is slated to start next year when the two stars are on hiatus from their respective TV shows.

Speaking of comedies, Ashton Kutcher is set to topline Columbia Pictures' Like Father, a flick about an estranged father and son whose relationship is renewed after both coincidentally have to raise infant sons at the same time and experience fatherhood together.

Kenneth Lonergan, the acclaimed writer-helmer of You Can Count On Me, will script and direct.

• Per the Hollywood Reporter, Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic will join Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness, the latter's first big-screen role in eight years. The Martin Campbell-directed film follows a veteran cop (Gibson) whose daughter (Novakovic) is murdered outside her home, prompting the policeman to embark on an investigation that leads him into an underworld of corporate crime and government conspiracies. Huston plays a nefarious businessman and Roberts is his daughter's grief-stricken boyfriend

• Alec Baldwin is in negotiations to costar with Meryl Streep in an untitled romantic comedy for Universal that What Women Want helmer Nancy Meyers is shepherding. The Oscar-nominated thesp will play one of two men vying for Streep's love. The film starts lensing next February.

• Claire Danes is in talks to headline a biopic for HBO on Temple Grandin, one of the top advocates on autism. The story would trace Grandin from her early high school years on up through her postdoctorate days after she surmounted her own battle with the brain development disorder to become one of the leading scientists in the field of livestock handling

• Mädchen Amick of Twin Peaks fame has been cast opposite Christian Slater in NBC's upcoming fall drama series My Own Worst Enemy. She'll play the wife of Henry (Slater), a mild-mannered suburban dad who leads a double life as a debonair spy

• Christopher Mintz-Plasse is in talks while Chloe Moretz is set to star in Kick-Ass, a feature adaptation of the ultraviolent comic by Mark Millar that Stardust director Matthew Vaughn has made his passion project. It follows a high school dork who transforms into a real-life superhero named Kick-Ass. Moretz will play a potty-mouthed 11-year-old who takes on criminals with a ninja sword while Mintz-Plasse is the teen who discovers his true identity.
