Mashing up the hottest rock and pop, electronica and hip-hop acts with eco-friendly and socially conscious initiatives and, more recently, all that Chicago has to offer, Lollapalooza is marking two decades in the concert business with one of its most exciting lineups yet.
Headlining this very special edition set for Aug. 5-7 in Grant Park—Lolapalooza's home base since 2005, when it transitioned from a faltering touring machine to a mega-successful destination festival—will be Eminem, Coldplay, Muse, Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Deadmau5 and Cee Lo Green.
Joining them will be a who's who of more than 80 artists including A Perfect Circle, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and Nas, Ween, the Kills, Bright Eyes, Arctic Monkeys, Big Audio Dynamite, Deftones, Ratatat, Cold War Kids, Crystal Castles, Beirut and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
What's great about Lollapalooza—aside from its new, kid-friendly vibe and variety of delicious and healthy eats from Chicago's top chefs—is the fact that it has retained its musical eclecticism. The fest features much-buzzed-about rising stars like Young the Giant on the same bill as veteran acts like the Cars, who are currently on a reunion tour.
Add to the roster some of the world's biggest DJs, among them Girl Talk, Kid Cudi, Modeselektor, Jay Electronica and the Glitch Mob, and cofounder Perry Farrell's baby looks good enough to go another 20.
