Star Trek's George Takei as Spider-Man?! He's Got Our Vote

Trek vet boldly enters the Marvel universe, launches campaign for title role in troubled Broadway musical

George Takei is swinging all right—with everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood arachnid.

With Broadway's trouble-plagued Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark turning off critics and stuck in previews (not unlike its stars dangle helplessly over the stage), the former Star Trek star has taken to the Web (sorry) to announce a mock campaign to play the famous webslinger.

In a YouTube clip that's gone viral, the 73-year-old Takei makes a pitch for the titular role job, donning the spider suit and even showing off some acrobatic prowess while suspended from wires and dispatching baddies (with a little help from a phaser, natch). The spoof is aimed at promoting his starring role in the musical Allegiance set to open along the Great White Way in 2012.

Can Captain Sulu do whatever a spider can? You be the judge.
