Beantown got swept, all right—but it wasn't by the Yankees.

A day after taking top honors with the Los Angeles Film Critics, Kathryn Bigelow's Iraq-set action drama The Hurt Locker led the best-of list from the Boston Society of Film Critics, with an unprecedented five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for star Jeremy Renner.

While The Hurt Locker has suddenly become a major player in the run-up to Oscar nominations (it also made the AFI cut and topped the Gotham Awards), a couple other frontrunners have also emerged: Mo'Nique (Best Supporting Actress for playing an abusive mom in Precious) and Christoph Waltz  (the ruthless Nazi commandant in Inglourious Basterds) who are 2-for-2 with Boston and L.A. critics.

Meryl Streep, meanwhile, proved her worth in the kitchen, winning Best Actress for her delicious turn as Julia Child in Julie and Julia.

Up scored the Best Animated Feature prize; Star Trek and Precious shared Best Acting Ensemble and District 9 director Neill Bomkamp was given the Best New Filmmaker Award.
