ABCRachel Uchitel can't really do anything about "people" calling her a variety of unsavory names.
But she's not going to sit idly by while the ladies of The View talk trash.
"Uchitel she's a hooker," Joy Behar joked (haha—phonetics!) a couple of minutes into today's show after Whoopi Goldberg started talking about Tiger Woods' alleged affairs and mentioned Uchitel, who has denied having a relationship with the golf star and possibly prolific philanderer.
"Rachel, you walked into that one, girl," added an amused Sherri Shepherd.
And that was that, on with the show. Or so one might think.
"This statement about Ms. Uchitel is false and defamatory and highly offensive to her," L.A. attorney Gloria Allred, Uchitel's recently acquired representation, said in a statement Thursday night. "Rachel is very upset by that statement, which has been viewed and now read all around the world.
"This statement was very hurtful to Rachel because it is not true," Allred continued. "Even if the host said it in a joking way Rachel is not amused because she values her reputation, and her reputation has been damaged by this statement as it is completely false."
In a cover story for OK! magazine, Uchitel said that she's not trying to play the victim, but that she'd like the media to remember that she's human.
"People have called me a homewrecker, gold digger, tramp, whore," she said. "I make mistakes, but I'm not those things. I have very good qualities. When you're judged by the nation, it's really difficult. It's horrible."
Allred says they are sending a letter to ABC demanding that The View issue a retraction. "We hope that they will do the right thing," she said.
Uchitel she's serious.
