We're not sure we see it, but Will Ferrell thinks Simon Cowell could be the next star of Anchorman.

In an interview with the U.K.'s Sun newspaper, the funnyman says he'd like to play the curmudgeon American Idol judge in a biopic someday.

"I would love to play Simon Cowell in a movie. Heck, I would love it. It would be a dream role," Ferrell said. "It wouldn't be hard for me to play him because I see a lot of Ron Burgundy in Simon Cowell."

While he doesn't attempt to compare and contrast tight black T-shirts with polyester suits, the Blades of Glory king goes on to list their similarities.

"Like Simon, Ron was the biggest thing on TV, loved himself and had that whole irresistible middle-aged man thing going on," he said. "Simon Cowell and Ron Burgundy are pretty much the same role, apart from Simon being ruder."

Zing!

Then, of course, he threatens the big bully…with the two of them hanging out in the name of "research."

"Come on, Simon. You know it would be fun. I could spend some time shadowing you," he joked. "We could spend time in your mansion in high trousers and black round-neck tees just being rude to people. It would be great."

That said, Ferrell thinks perhaps the better casting idea would go the opposite direction.

"I could play Simon, but to be honest Simon could play Ron. They are like long-lost twin brothers separated at birth."

Happy birthday, Violet Affleck! (She's seriously so cute celebrating in Big Pic, it slays us!)
