Sigh.

Well, thank god for Gossip Girl. Even if there's no Kristen Bell until further notice on Heroes (sob), we'll always have her silver-tongued self doing voice-overs about Chuck and Queen B over on the CW. (More on that in an upcoming post.)

As for tonight's installment of Heroes, read on for the dish about a character whose death isn't what it seems to be...

WHAT WE LEARNED

Sylar Is an Unrepentant Killer: Sylar's soul has vanished into thin air, and he's back to being a theatrical, even melodramatic, serial killer. Never let it be said that Gabriel Gray does not understand the art of stagecraft. He fried Elle with her own powers, toyed with the Lady Lie-Detectress like she was the mouse to his cat, and then, then, he feasted on cake. On the upside, he mustered the mojo to kill Arthur Petrelli. That's something.

Save the Cheerleader, Save the World: Hiro and Claire are comedy gold—I can't believe they've never had scenes together before. The entire Nakamura-Bennet family saga, where children gave solace and succor to their own parents, was lovely. Claire-Bear explained the future of their relationship to HRG, and Hiro got a few special moments with his mom. But there's still trouble afoot. Arthur took Hiro's powers, Arthur is dead, and Hiro is trapped in the past, which means that until Peter or someone like him reclaims the power of time travel, there's no one capable of jumping back to rescue Hiro!

Daphne Rocks: The last artworks of Isaac Mendez were recovered by the fabulous tag team of Matt, Daphne and Ando. Ando's English has improved nicely and if that means he gets to spend more time mixing it up with the ensemble, it's A-OK by me. But the important part of this trifecta is the pairing of Matt and Daphne. It's an unlikely love affair, but it is by far the most authentic romantic relationship this show has produced since Hiro and Charlie. (Sylar-Elle were more epic than authentic, but I can't really talk about those two right now because Sylar unforgivably killed Elle and if I think about it I might scream a little bloody murder myself.)

If You Missed It: You can now get full episodes the morning after they air on our sister site Fancast...

WHAT'S TO COME

* This statement is still true: A cutie-pie blonde in a new romance is going to die, and at first she'll seem to be done for, but then we will learn that it's all a cover-up—she's still breathing. Elle just got roasted by Sylar. Is she the blonde in question—or is there someone else who qualifies?

* Peter will not be without abilities for too much longer. In fact, sources tell me he'll be flying high within a few short episodes.

* In the Fugitives volume we'll see that creating supersoldiers isn't Nathan and Tracy's primary objective. They're less interested in engineering than they are in command and control issues. Think Guantanamo Bay, only their version of Camp X-Ray actually has people who can do X-rays with their brains...

* Despite all the news today about NBC's reorganization, Heroes remains one of the Peacock net's biggest 18-49 draws, so it will continue to be one of the network's flagship series—and Bryan Fuller is back on board. Holler!
