SAVE ONE SHOW (Updated!): Scoop on Your Faves in Danger and How to Help

Save One Show E! Networks

Update (Thurs., Apr. 5, 11:50 a.m.): I just checked the SOS voting after a couple of days and actually gasped! The top five remains the same, but the show that was in third-place as of Monday evening has barreled ahead and is now in first! If you're devoted to one particular show, don't give up yet, because even though the competition is fierce, it's still anybody's game! The voting booth closes tomorrow, Apr. 6 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

SAVE ONE SHOW IS HERE!

Let the panic begin.

It is that time of year, dear tubers, where we TV fans must face the most brutal of all realities: Some of our favorite shows will not make it to the light of another season.

(Let's pause for a group hug.)

And this year, the list of endangered shows includes some of the very best series on television—which is what makes the campaign I'm about to announce to you all the more important.

One Tree Hill, Chad Michael Murray The CW

Welcome to our seventh annual Save One Show campaign—where, you, the fans, get to decide which one endangered series is most deserving of rescue. It is the best way for you to make your voice heard with the powers that be—before it's too late.

Now, lest you think this silly little poll doesn't really make a difference, let me remind you that our Save One Show campaign has a solid track record, having successfully rescued five out of six winning shows. And if I had a nickel for every time a castmember or producer told me our SOS singlehandedly saved them...well, I bet I'd have a whole dollar.

That said, it is extremely important that you take part and vote—and encourage your friends to do the same. There is strength in numbers, and the network execs do listen.

Here's what you do:

1. Look over the endangered series list below and VOTE HERE TO SAVE ONE SHOW. Also, note that this year we're doing it a little differently. Rather than taking votes by email or in the Comments section, we've created a dedicated voting booth, so get over there and get clickin'!

2. Check back next Friday to see current voting rankings. (We've added in this step for all you overanxious souls!)

3. Come back Apr. 13 to find out this year's grand-prize SOS winner.

The winner receives show-saving promotion in all three of our mediums—E! Online, E! News and the Vine. Plus, I personally will deliver your show-saving plea directly to the network execs of the winning show, so feel free to share your show-saving message in the Comments section below.

SOS Video Bonus:  Our SOS campaign also has a cool new feature this year. We're going to let you make your own Save One Show video, so you can show the world why you want your show to be rescued. We'll select the three best videos and air them on our broadband channel, the Vine. All you need to do is shoot your video on a Webcam, then upload your video by clicking here.

Now, since you can only choose one show, I know the selection can be heart-wrenching. So, in an effort to help you make a (hopefully) informed decision, allow me to break down for you what I'm hearing about each SOS contender's current chances of survival:

LOOKING SAFE

30 Rock:  Say it with me now. Our father of comedy, Alec Baldwin, hallowed be thy name...This series is clearly the breakout comedy of the season, so sources tell me it's looking like a shoo-in to return. So, yay! Just another good reason for Jack Donaghy to put on that tuxedo.

Friday Night Lights:  NBC execs love this show. And that makes me love NBC execs. This is without a doubt the most underappreciated new series on television, and sources tell me NBC knows that and is expected to keep it around. Hooray!

Scrubs:  If NBC (smokes crack and) drops this show, ABC will happily pick up our beloved Sacred Heart gang. And hey, maybe even give 'em a little promotional love for once!

LOOKING UNCERTAIN

Crossing Jordan:  With ho-hum ratings and an early season wrap, it seems NBC may be poised to pull the plug on this one. Insiders tell me that Crossing Jordan's livelihood depends on how strong the new pilots turn out to be.

Gilmore Girls:  Paging Miss Alexis Bledel. Are you or aren't you going to do another season? Because according to sources, our beloved Rory Gilmore is the biggest deciding factor in a season eight, given that she's holding out on signing a new contract and Lauren Graham won't sign without her. Meanwhile, show runner David Rosenthal has been taking meetings around town looking for a new job, which isn't the best sign. However! The fans still love this show, and Gilmore Girls is still one of the strongest on the CW. So, don't give up just yet! There could be a miraculous rescue in the 11th hour (with a little help from you).

How I Met Your Mother:  What's a world without Barney? A world without reason to suit up or watch CBS! Well, the good news is that despite the horrific fact I witnessed while on the set of HIMYM last week—that the crew had torn down the bar set, gaaah!—the cast and crew all seemed hopeful the show would be back. "We haven't heard officially yet about a third season, but we're pretty confident," says show runner Carter Bays. "The show has grown considerably this year, both creatively and in the ratings, and I expect season three—should we get one—to be even bigger and better. We're cautiously optimistic."

Jericho:  According to CBS insiders, there is strong support for Jericho within the higher ranks of the peeper network. Still, Jericho has struggled somewhat in the ratings this season—especially while going head-to-head with American Idol. Yes, Simon Cowell could trigger the end of the world for this apocalyptic show.

Medium:  Sources close to the show tell me they’re hopeful that Medium will return to the NBC schedule this fall. “I don’t see why not,” a network insider says. “It’s in a very tough time slot [at 10 p.m. against Lost and CSI: New York], but its ratings have been consistent.” Indeed, the show pulled in 8.67 million viewers for its last original episode earlier this month, a respectable number considering its competition. The cast and the crew, however, are not counting their chickens. Earlier this week, I spoke with Patricia Arquette, who said, regarding its chances of a third season, “This a grind. It’s a major undertaking, but I love everyone involved, and we have a good time. But I think that there's always a higher power at work, and so I'll be okay either way.”

One Tree Hill:  Last year's big SOS winner! Still, much to the fans' dismay, next season is not yet guaranteed. Creator Mark Schwahn tells me, "Here we go again...Back on the bubble.  As you know, I announced months ago that if we get a fifth season, we're going to skip college and jump ahead four years.  I'd love the opportunity to take this unprecedented step with One Tree Hill and give the best fans in the world a chance to continue the journey with the best cast on television." Also, I've heard from lots of you One Tree Hill fans, and yes, it's true, new episodes return on May 2, not this month as planned. According to my source, the CW is using the slot to make an additional push to the The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll, which is doing well for them in the ratings.

Six Degrees:  The real test comes tonight—yes, tonight! JJ Abrams' newest baby, Six Degrees, returns on ABC at 9 p.m., and its fate is absolutely up to how many of you tune in. The show has been somewhat reworked, and I gotta tell you—I think you're gonna like it.

Supernatural:  When your show doesn't take place at Seattle Grace or investigate dead bodies in Las Vegas, having a Thursday night time slot can be killer! And no one knows this better than the cute boys of Supernatural. Despite an obsessively committed fan base, the ratings haven't been strong enough to guarantee another season. Sources tell me it could be in real trouble if the CW's pilots come back strong.

What About Brian:  Sources tell me ABC is hot on this show (and wants to keep relations with JJ Abrams' camp strong), but if ratings don't start ticking up, it could be a goner.

LOOKING DOOMED

The Class:  Though it started out at a D-, The Class actually improved to a B+ over the course of the season. So, it looked like it might survive...until...whammo! Rules of Engagement premiered to strong ratings. And I'm pretty sure (unless you fans help) Class will be dismissed.

Close to Home:  CBS insiders suggest this show isn't likely to return, but the show's devoted fans are hoping it sticks around—and star Jennifer Finnigan seconds that emotion.  "I hope to see our show go for another season, mostly because I know we have so many more interesting stories to tell," she tells me. "Who knows? Maybe Annabeth may even get a love life in season three!"

The Nine:  Stick a fork in it. Sorry, I loved this show, too. But I'm pretty sure there's nothing anyone can do to save this one.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip:  Though NBC's brass would love to stay in cahoots with Aaron Sorkin, I'm told there isn't a whole lot of support for the show inside the Peacock net's higher ranks. Still, with the right amount of fan support (hint, hint!), NBC could be willing to give it another season to pull in the audience it deserves.

Veronica Mars:  With rumors that supporting castmembers were told the series was canceled and the Pussycat Dolls' well-rated reality series (blech) blowing Veronica out of the Nielsens water (double blech), it isn't looking good for Veronica Mars. Says creator Rob Thomas, "Last year I was 70-30, thinking the show would be saved. This year, I have been holding steady at 60-40. But lately, I've become less than that." If Veronica does return, it would likely become an FBI show with the feisty Miss Mars flashing forward four years into the future. (Which sounds pretty damn awesome to at least one fan.)

Now, VOTE to Save One Show!
