Pamela Beesly and James Halpert of Scranton, Pa., are engaged to be married. The prospective groom surprised his bride-to-be with a wedding proposal during what was purported to be a quick lunch date at a roadside rest stop.

Pam and Jim, as they are known to friends, were unavailable for comment, but according to a close friend of the bride, Jenna Fischer:

"We haven't gotten a really good close-up shot of the ring Jim gave Pam, but it's great! It's so perfect! The Pam inside of me just loves it!"

Fischer reports that her friend's fiancé "did a good job" of finding the perfect ring for Pam, saying, "Jim does pretty well as a salesman and picked out a really nice half-carat diamond with a mixture of white and yellow gold. It's very classy and modern, but young and fresh!"

The couple has not set a date, but a relatively brief engagement is expected. However, according to Fischer, their circle is currently focused on the engagement of close frenemies Angela Martin and Andy Bernard: "Right now the big wedding plans belong to Angela and Andy, and that's going to get pretty spicy. It might overshadow things for Jim and Pam right now."

Jenna reports that despite Pam and Jim's extended courtship, the engagement took everyone in their improvisational comedy club by surprise.

"When we did the table read on that episode they omitted that scene, and they didn't tell us. They had us sign a form when they gave us just those pages and it was a really big secret. So a lot of the castmembers didn't even know that was in the episode until the very end."

Ms. Beesley is currently studying at Pratt Art School in New York City. Mr. Halpert is a salesman for Dunder Mifflin Paper Company here in his hometown of Scranton. Halpert will announce his engagement to coworkers at Dunder Mifflin today.
