Something wicked is happening between The Good Wife's Cary Agos (Matt Czuchry) and Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi).

Wicked chemistry, that is.

The bisexual babe in boots has formed an unlikely alliance with the cocky young lawyer, and the stars of CBS' hit drama tell us the former frenemies are getting friendlier...

"There's been a mutual respect, a friendship, that's been growing" between Cary and Kalinda," Matt told us last night at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) event celebrating CBS' award-winning show.

"It's unusual," Archie added, "considering the way they were like with each other last year."

Part of the reason, Matt said, is that Cary's a new man. "When he lost that competition [and his job, to Julianna Margulies' titular character], it humbled him quite a bit. In season two, you've seen him mature, take on different cases, and that's impacted him."

Cary now has a good-guy role at the state's attorney's office—which we see more of in tonight's new episode, "Silly Season," which is told "from Cary's perspective," Matt said, "and how that perspective changes the case versus seeing it from Lockhart Gardner's side." And when his office becomes involved with nasty Blake (Scott Porter, Matt's onetime Friday Night Lights costar) Cary is even becoming Kalinder's unlikely protector.

"The tension between Blake and Kalinda rises," Archie told us, "and the stakes are very high. Blake wants to get her and frame her, and Cary intervenes to protect Kalinda."

"He picks Kalinda's side," Matt told us, "and with that we're going to see their friendship grow."

Grow into a romance?

"Right now it's at a friendship," Matt smiled, adding, "I think that friendship will continue to grow."

Executive producer David Zucker told us, "[Their relationship is] really evolving in really small, subtle and sometimes striking steps...Our characters are there to grow. On most shows, if they kiss the show is over. In our show, it just began."

Whether it's with Cary or someone else, things are definitely heating up for Kalinda in the next "three or four" episodes, according to cocreator Robert King. "We do see the climax of the situation between Kalinda and Blake, which is very provocative and quite a stretch for network TV."

Any guesses on what this provocative, FCC-challenging climax might be? And what do you think of a Cary and Kalinda coupling? We value your opinion in the comments!
