The Vampire Diaries returns this week with "The Descent," and as you can see from the previews, the show is about to kick off a pretty sexy series of storylines, including several makeout sessions for Caroline (Candice Accola) and what appears to be psychotic poisoning for vampire Rose (Lauren Cohan). At the center of all these twists is Michael Trevino's Tyler, whose werewolf destiny is leading him closer to the truth about Mystic Falls' vampire secrets. We just talked to Trevino and he revealed what Tyler's connections to Team Wolfy, through Mason (Taylor Kinney) and Jules (Michaela McManus), mean for the rest of the season:

Romance-wise, Michael tells us, "Me and Candice are really good friends, we're close, we have a blast on the show. And this season has been really fun because we have a lot of scenes together, and it's just joke after joke after joke. And it's good whenever—working with her is just so easy, and she's so talented and I just like the chemistry we have on screen." So what was it like when Tyler kisses Caroline this week? Trevino tells us it was a bit like kissing his little sister and that, "This kiss—you can tell by in the teasers of that episode that airs this week, it's not the type of romantic, passionate, long, soap opera kind of kiss, Tyler is just overcome with emotion and he just goes in for it. So it's funny how the end of that scene plays out and it's good, it's a good awkwardness."

As for the coming conflict between the werewolves and vampires, "The truth comes out is really all I can say. The truth finally comes out. It's all put out there once this information comes out...and some relationships change." Ruh-roh. We're sensing that there might be a schism coming between Tyler and Team Salvatore, meaning all the people who have kept Stefan and Damon's secret and collaborated with them, including Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham).

For that matter, the adorable Caroline-Tyler friendship might not be long for this world. Trevino tells us, that when the truth comes out, "There's going to be some conflict and some relationships kind of often end after that."
