All this week, we're counting down the most anticipated series of the new year and telling you what to watch and what highlights to expect from 2010's top TV. Coming in at No. 6 is a sweet and funny WB-style family drama:

Life Unexpected (CW)

Premieres: Jan. 18, 9 p.m.
Starring: Shiri Appleby, Kristoffer Polaha, Britt Robertson, Kerr Smith
Status: New series

Why should you give this sweet new series a shot? Here's what we can tell you:

Ahhh, the glory days of the WB are back, and we'd like to extend the warmest of welcomes to Life Unexpected for delivering this shot of nostalgia. Not too long after we ring in the New Year, the CW debuts Life Unexpected, its freshest series since The Vampire Diaries.

Life Unexpected is a family-centric series that follows foster kid Lux (newcomer Britt Robertson) on her journey to find acceptance within her new family. The pilot immediately draws you in with its cast of typical gorgeous folks, but even better than the good looks of the cast is the script's capacity to pique your interest in these characters as quickly as it does. Will little Lux escape the gloom of the foster-care system? Will her birth parents take her in? It's deep stuff for the first few episodes of a series, but somehow it all works.

Add to the mix former WB faves Shiri Appleby of Roswell fame, and Dawson's Creek's Kerr Smith, and you've got yourself a winner! LUX, as we'll call it from here on out, is the perfect blend of Felicity's coming-of-age tale with Everwood's small-town family feel. Trust us, you'll love it.
