American Idol winner Kris Allen might have been low-key, mellow and, well, some could even say a bit unemotional throughout the show's run, but the Conway, Ark., singer says he does express a different side when he writes songs.

"I've been writing for probably six years or so," Kris said on a press conference call. "I love writing music. It's the way that I express how I feel, because I'm not a man of many words. I'm not very expressive or emotional or whatever, but it comes out in my music. And that's kind of who I am. I don't know how great I am at it, but I think I'm getting better."

Check out what else he had to say about his forthcoming debut CD…

"I felt like I did exactly what I wanted to do on the show that I would want to do on a record," Kris said. "I mean, maybe stray a little bit on some of the stuff. When I went on the show and I did 'Ain't No Sunshine,' I felt that was the kind of stuff that I wanted to do, stuff that kind of moves people and has that feeling."

Even though he's been writing songs for years and even released his own CD titled Brand New Shoes in 2007, Kris said he isn't exactly sure if he'll get a chance to write on his upcoming release. "I don't know if we'll be using any of that stuff on the first CD or not. But we'll see."

When asked if he'd work with Kara DioGuardi (who cowrote the Idol coronation song, "No Boundaries"), he said: "Maybe so. If it's in the cards and it works out. It was really fun working with her on the single. She was a blast, and I really respect what she does."

Kris hopes people will respect what he does, too: "The only thing that I really want to do is just be respected in the music industry. And whether that means selling albums or winning Grammys or people just liking your music, that's what I really want to do."
