Keanu Jumps to Jekyll, Vin Stays in His Wheelhouse
No one has ever accused Keanu Reeves of being Mr. Personality. Mr. Split Personality, on the other hand…
Reeves is set to star as the titular doctor who develops an evil side in Jekyll, Universal's modern retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic and oft-adapted novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Reeves' take won't follow the letter of the original—that'll be left up to Guillermo del Toro, who is also developing a more horror-based take on the tale for the same studio—but plot details are otherwise being kept under wraps. Revolutionary Road scribe Justin Haythe is writing the new script.
Meanwhile, sticking to projects slightly more in his wheelhouse is fellow action star Vin Diesel, who's returning to a comfortable big-screen position—namely, behind the wheel of a car—in The Wheelman.
The muscle man will take on the live-action adaptation of the video game that launched last month. According to Variety, he plays an expert driver who comes out of retirement to protect a woman from his past. John Singleton is on board to direct.

Update
A Fast & Furious $72.5 Mil Weekend
It must have been the the's that were the problem.
Shorn of its franchise's titular articles, Fast & Furious blew away its predecessors and the box office weekend competition with an estimated $72.5 million Friday-Sunday debut.
The performance was the year's best opening by a mile. It was the car series' biggest by an even longer mile.
Drilling down into the numbers:
Rise 'n' Shine: Britney Spears Mocks Fox News
• In her "If You Seek Amy" video, Britney Spears and her peeps take a jab at Fox News, setting up the screen, writing the dialogue and casting the anchor to look cleverly like a segment from the channel.
• Vin Diesel recovers from an illness Fast and makes a whole bunch of people Furious in the process.
• It's a Bravo lovefest when Real Housewife of Orange County Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley rub it down on a yacht.
• Some kids never grow up. Rod Stewart's 28-year-old son, Sean, called his father "very cheap" on TV's Judge Jeanine Pirro because his rocker dad wouldn't pay the $5,000 he owed his personal trainer.
• Dear Bob Barker: Thanks for not doing porn. We have to guess the price just wasn't right. Love, Rise 'n' Shine

Rate-a-Trailer: Vin Diesel Gets Fast and Furious Again
Stars rise and stars fall—it's the circle of life, right? Vin Diesel's not quite ready for Dancing With the Stars, but he has returned to the series that first shot him to fame. The just-out trailer for Fast and Furious throws Vin back on the streets with Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, in what kinda looks like a remake of the first one. Only with a bigger budget and some girl-on-girl action.
Thing is, it totally looks like fun, and exactly what we like to see Diesel doing. (His sci-fi downer Babylon A.D. opens this week—have you even heard of it?) So what do you think? Can Vin win you back, or are the Furious flicks just about chase scenes and Walker's chin anyway?
Rate-a-Trailer: Vin Diesel Saves Us All in Babylon A.D.
You kinda have to respect Vin Diesel for sticking to what he loves: stylish sci-fi movies that don’t exactly make bank (see The Chronicles of Riddick—or don't). So check out this new trailer for Babylon A.D., due Aug. 29, which looks a bit like Children of Men remade on the Blade Runner set. And maybe that's a good thing, since French director Mathieu Kassovitz's futuristic flick feels superslick, despite Vin's sour look in every shot. And hey, look, 1.5 seconds of Michelle Yeoh!
What do you think? Can Vin win with this one?
