Zac Efron Steps Out Solo...So Where's Vanessa?

More from H'Wood Party Girl

Zac Efron just got back into town from filming The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud in Vancouver and has wasted no time hitting up the party scene.

Last Wednesday, he swung by Nylon's party at XIV solo, where his High School Musical costar Ashley Tisdale was also hanging. (The two had just lunched together on the Monday prior.)

And on Friday night, Zac was all over the place—first heading downtown to check out the opening of Hyde Lounge at the Staples Center arena.

The HSM hunk hung courtside at the Lakers game for a bit before swinging by the lounge, where he held court with three guy friends.

"The boys were really enjoying the game and not noticing the gaggle of girls trying to get his attention," a source tells E! News.

But it was another story back at a West Hollywood nightclub...

Zac Efron Thinks High School Musical Is Boring

Zac Efron, Nylon Nylon Guys

It has been far too long since we've seen Zac Efron's adorable mug on the cover of a magazine.

And while the poses in Nylon Guys aren't exactly his most original—we've seen the High School Musical hottie's plaid shirts and downward glances plenty of times—they are an adorable way to start your Friday nonetheless.

Still, now that he's promoting a grown-up movie with Me and Orson Welles, he's subtly dissing the fluffy flicks that catapulted him into our hearts.

Vanessa Hudgens Really Wants to Grow Up and Forget Naked Pictures

Vanessa Hudgens, Allure Magazine, Cover Carter Smith for Allure

It's hard out there for a High School Musical alum. Just ask Vanessa Hudgens, who spends the majority of her October Allure cover story begging everyone to treat her like a grown-up.

"People think of me as the High School Musical girl," she laments. "There's nothing wrong with that. My character was a great role model, but I get so bored doing the same thing. I want to grow like everybody else."

And she is determined to accomplish this, whether it be naked pictures (we'll talk more about those in a minute) or playing a prostitute in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. "It totally is my Angelina Jolie part," she said of the role. "I get to run around with guns and fight big men."

It's not just Angelina's career the 20-year-old wants to emulate...

Sucker Punch Scoop: Navy SEALs and Singing

Sorority Row, Jamie Chung Michael Desmond/ Summit Entertainment
More from Marc Malkin

No need to sound the alarm if you see Vanessa Hudgens lookin' a bit bruised and battered these days.

She and her costars in the upcoming Sucker Punch are getting their asses whipped in preparation for director Zack Snyder's shoot.

"We have Navy SEALs doing physical training, and then we have stunt and fight choreographers from Watchman and 300," says Jamie Chung, who will play Amber in the action-packed fantasy flick about a young girl in a mental institution in the 1950s. "It's going to be awesome."

Well, not so awesome for her legs, which have been left black-and-blue…

Heard the One About Zac and Vanessa Being Engaged?

Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens Noel Vasquez/Getty Images

Tweens, put down your pitchforks and back away slowly: Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are not—we repeat not—engaged.

So you can stop boycotting Bandslam now.

Hudgens seemed to hint (in a very much taken-out-of-context quote) in Britain's News of the World over the weekend that she and her High School sweetheart would soon be walking down the aisle. The betrothal report even found its way into the vaunted pages of the Washington Post. But rest assured the report is false.

"Not true," Hudgens' rep tells E! News.

Phew.

But that doesn't mean the twosome isn't still very much together…and socializing, no less, with another pair of lovey-dovey costars who also seem to be no match for the rumor mill.

We speak, of course, of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

New Moon Trailer Leak Slams Bandslam?

Vanessa Hudgens, Bandslam, District 9 Summit Entertainment, Sony Pictures

Guess vampires are mortal, too.

The lure of a new New Moon trailer didn't hook much business for Vanessa Hudgens' Bandslam, which despite good reviews debuted with just $2.3 million at the weekend box office, per estimates, and failed to finish in the Top 10. Or even the Top 12.

District 9, meanwhile, had a fantastic start, with the $30 million Peter Jackson-produced alien flick grossing $37 million and handily topping the likes of G.I. Joe.

As for Bandslam, its bad weekend probably started on Thursday. When the New Moon trailer was leaked online.

Bandslam's Aly on Nudity, Kissing and R.Pattz

More from Marc Malkin

Aly Michalka is growing up.

But not too much. The 19-year-old, best known from Aly & AJ, tells me there's not a chance in heck she'll be stripping down for a movie.

"I don't think it's necessary," Aly says.  "I think there are other ways to shoot a love scene or a sexy scene without taking your clothes off."

However, she does get to stir things up a bit in the upcoming Easy A, opposite Superbad's Emma Stone...

Review: Vanessa Hudgens Plays It Cool in Bandslam

Gaelan Connell, Vanessa Hudgens, Alyson Michalka, Bandslam Summit Entertainment

Review in a Hurry: High School Musical this ain't, thanks to real live bands with serious cred, a normal-looking dude in the lead role and a less-than-picture-perfect story. But it's Vanessa Hudgens who steals the mic with a surprisingly subtle performance.

Vanessa Hudgens: Pals Defend Her Against the Hate

Vanessa Hudgens, Charlie Saxton Van Redin/Summt Entertainment
More from Marc Malkin

The Vanessa Hudgens haters have to stop. Seriously, why is there so much animosity toward the young High School Musical star?

"It's so totally uncool," says Charlie Saxton, one of Hudgens' costars in Bandslam. "It's like, come on. Give me a break.

"She's such a sweet person, such a nice girl," added Charlie, who also plays Thomas Jane's son in HBO's Hung. "She really doesn't deserve all the negativity that she's getting."

Even so, Saxton said Hudgens is keeping it together…

Robert Pattinson Allowed at Teen Choice Awards, Vanessa Hudgens Jokes Banned

Loading...

Yeah, we already know the results of the Teen Choice Awards (what's with this broadcast-delay thing?), but we still tuned in just to make sure we didn't miss any of those precious Twilight moments. Just like Fox wanted...what suckers.

Unfortunately, we didn't even get our Robert Pattinson fill, because he barely got to speak. While accepting his Choice Male Hottie award with Megan Fox, he tried his best to stutter something nice to the screaming tweens, "I have to say that the hottest hotties—the hottest teens, to me, are the Twilight fans."

Aw, that's cute of him to try to say. Then when all the Twilight kids gathered round onstage to celebrate their 11 prestigious awards, you can guess who did all the talking...

More from Marc Malkin

Gaelan Connell is one lucky dude. Not only is he starring in the upcoming movie Bandslam opposite Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka of Aly & AJ, but he got to smooch with them, too.

In the flick (opening August 14), the self-described nerd plays, well, a geek who puts together a high school rock group to compete in the local battle of the bands.

"Thank you Shia LaBeouf and Michael Cera," Gaelan says, "for paving the way for someone like me to be the leading guy in a movie—revenge of the nerds!"

Read on to find out what it was like kissing Vanessa and Aly, meeting Zac Efron and dealing with the paparazzi...
