While NBC is killing shows right and left, ABC is working with Marc Cherry to extend the cougar juggernaut Desperate Housewives four more years, inside Housewives sources reveal exclusively to the Awful Truth.

The soap, starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria Parker and Nicollette Sheridan among myriad hot young men and even hotter middle-aged Hollywood babes, is still doing big ratings in its fifth season. ABC and Cherry had been planning to end it after a seventh-season finale in May 2011.

But now, Cherry just revealed he wants to do two additional seasons (eight and nine).

"Marc was cutting a cake when he announced it," beamed our D.H. veteran. "He couldn't have been happier—this show isn't going anywhere."

Fab! So glad to hear! Even gladder to discover that "more" gay characters are going to be introduced. Love how this soap's becoming the boob-tube Antichrist to Prop 8 supporters. Hang on, all you traditional marriage believers. ABC's got news for you.

Congrats, Marc, very well done.
