Will Anne Hathaway Jinx Anne Hathaway?

After the much deserved praise we just helped shoot Anne Hathaway's way for her already much celebrated job in Rachel Getting Married, it sounds like not every flick the sometimes put-upon babe's got coming up will be quite as successful.

Yep, it's like all you Anne fans feared: We might—just might—have another Havoc on our hands. Word on the T-town prerelease street is that A-babe's recently completed flick Passengers is not exactly Oscar-tawk material—and even Hathaway, the perky put-on-a-good-show babe herself, can't redeem the movie. Execs involved with the movie, we're told, were wondering if it just might be a "Blockbuster Exclusive!" type deal, but Sony assures us Passengers will be getting an Oct. 24 release. Whew!

Come to think of it, direct-to-DVD might sound good to Anne's peeps. Ya know, keep it out of the theaters so it doesn't hurt that Oscar buzz that's going 'round town right now. Out of sight, out of mind? Don't believe this old adage is true? Uh, yeah, it can be, baby.

Just when Eddie Murphy was riding his golden Academy Award buzz high on Dreamgirls, Norbit had to come out and blow it all to money-grubbing, hideously shrill smithereens. Sometimes a little quiet, classy flick all by itself is truly the best way to go, dears.

We just hope A.H. is that good in Rachel Getting Married, so that it trumps anything down 'n' out this next movie might or might not cause. Would be a shame on so many levels. For ince, Passengers, which costars hottie Patrick Wilson, is all about Hathaway counseling plane-crash survivors, including Wilson. Really up stuff, but whatever. Of course, they end up sleeping together, I hear, just like Winslet did with Wilson in Little Children, when she wasn't at all supposed to. So can't this damn buzz-kill flick be at least a little bit good so we can see Wilson's ass on the widescreen again and so Anne can get that Oscar, already? Hope so!
